Completing a Work Plan Run

When all operations and steps in a Work Plan run are done—or when you need to close the run with unfinished work—you complete the run from the Complete Work Plan section at the bottom of the Work Plan run view.

When everything is done (green button)

If all steps and kit items are complete:

  1. Scroll to the Complete Work Plan section. You’ll see progress for steps and kit (e.g. completed/total and percentage).
  2. Optionally choose Move planned inventory? and select a location if you want to move planned inventory when the run completes.
  3. Optionally check Archive All Workflow Cards to archive workflow cards linked to this run.
  4. Click Complete Work Plan to finish the run.

If you have unsaved redlines, Boltline shows an Unsaved Redlines dialog first. Choose Save or Discard (or Cancel to stay in the run), then complete as above.

tip

After completion, the run appears under Completed in the sidebar. If the run was for assembling parts with inventory, that inventory is now available (no longer planned).

When there is unfinished work (red button)

If some steps or kit items are not done but you still want to close the run:

  1. In the Complete Work Plan section, click Complete Work Plan (shown when the run is incomplete).
  2. In the Complete Work Plan Run? confirmation dialog, review the warnings (e.g. skipping unfinished steps, discarding unsaved edits, locking the plan).
  3. Optionally enter a Reason for completing with unfinished work.
  4. Confirm to complete. Boltline will skip unfinished steps and discard unsaved redlines; the run is marked complete.

You can still use the optional Move planned inventory? and Archive All Workflow Cards when completing with unfinished work.

caution

Completing with unfinished steps is permanent for that run. Only use this when you must close the run without finishing all work (e.g. cancelled build, partial run).

What happens when a run is completed

  • The run is marked completed and moves to Work PlansCompleted in the sidebar.
  • Planned inventory (if any) can be moved to the chosen location, or remains as configured.
  • If you chose Archive All Workflow Cards, linked workflow cards are archived.
  • For kit-based runs, the kit completion logic runs; for runs with planned inventory only, planned status is cleared so the inventory shows as available.
  • Activity is recorded so the completion is visible in history and audit.
