Part Custom Fields (Field Groups)

Part custom fields let you attach custom field groups to a part so you can capture and display extra information (e.g. specs, compliance, notes). Each group has a name, description, and a set of fields with types such as text, number, date, select, files, location, markdown, signoff, user, or part number. Field groups you create can be reused across parts.

Viewing and adding field groups on a part

From the Part Detail page:

  • Custom field groups for this part appear below the main part fields in collapsible sections. Expand a group to view or edit its values.
  • To add or manage groups, open the Edit menu (pencil icon) and choose Add Custom Fields. The Custom Field Group Library opens.

Custom Field Group Library

The library shows existing field groups you can attach to this part, and lets you create new ones.

  • Add an existing group to this part: In the library, find the group and use Add Group To [part] (or the equivalent action) so the group appears on the part.
  • Create a new group: Click New Field Group. Enter a Name and Description, then add fields: choose a Field Name and Field Type for each. Supported types include Text, Number, Date, Select, Radio, Boolean, String, Files, Location, Markdown, Signoff, User, and Part Number. For Select and Radio, define the options. Save to create the group; you can then add it to the part.

Editing and removing a group on the part

On the Part Detail page, each custom field group has a menu (e.g. three dots) with:

  • Modify Field Group – Opens the library in edit mode so you can change the group’s name, description, or fields. Changes apply to the group definition and affect all parts (and inventory) using that group.
  • Remove Field Group – Removes the group from this part only. A confirmation explains that the group will be removed from this part and from related inventory. The group definition stays in the library for use on other parts.
Group definition is global

Editing a field group (name, description, or fields) updates the definition for every part and inventory item that uses that group. Removing a field from a group or changing its type can cause data loss for existing values. Removing the group from a part only unlinks it from that part (and related inventory); it does not delete the group definition.

Supported field types (parts)

  • Text, Number, Date, String
  • Select, Radio, Boolean
  • Files, Location
  • Markdown
  • Signoff, User, Part Number

Use the library’s create/edit forms to add fields and, for Select/Radio, to define options.
