Workflow Custom Fields

You can use Custom Fields to gather and track any information you want, and associate it with a part, inventory, or a work plan. If you are new to Boltline, follow along by opening a brand new Kanban workflow.

The default fields provided when you click Add a Card in a new Kanban workflow are Title, Status, and Description, with optional fields to add under + Add to Card:

  • Assignees
  • Labels
  • Dates
  • Inventory
  • Part

You can create any custom fields you need and they will show up on the cards.

As an example, let's say you want to speed up the process by quickly addressing issues that are holding up progress, like when someone is waiting for assistance. You can add custom fields to alert the team or the individual whose attention is required, and show if the task is at a standstill (On Hold). Here's how you can do that:

  • From your workflow, select the 3 dots at the top right of the window.
  • Select Custom Fields.

Add your first custom field:

  • Click + Add Field.
  • Add the Field Name of "Request for Help".
  • Select User as the Field Type.
  • Use the toggle if you want this field to be Required for New Card and Show Card Preview.

Add your next custom field:

  • Click + Add Field.
  • Add the Field Name of "Description of Help Needed".
  • Select TEXT as the Field Type.
  • Use the toggle if you want this field to be Required for New Card and Show Card Preview.

Add one last custom field to show if the task is at a standstill:

  • Click + Add Field.
  • Add the Field Name of "ON HOLD".
  • Select BOOLEAN as the Field Type.
  • Turn the toggle to On for Show Card Preview.

Now when you click on a card in your workflow, it will show the custom fields you created.
