Kitting
Kitting streamlines the process of assembling your component parts into a completed build. The Kit feature is the preferred method, over using the Assemble button on the P/N page. The kit is tied to an mBOM and allows you to reserve parts, move inventory to your build location, and install the component parts, which generates an aBOM. Any actions performed within the kit directly impact the mBOM.
Completion of a kit results in the creation of inventory. Kits can be integrated into Workflows and Work Plans.
Create a New Kit
Once you create a new kit, the inventory is generated in Boltline and marked with a banner as PLANNED.
- Navigate to the Kits tab under Inventory in the left side panel.
- Select
+ New Kit. - Select
Empty KitorAssembly. See below for descriptions.
Empty Kit
If you want to start from scratch with an empty kit, this option allows you to add all of your components manually. If you want to use a part that already has an eBOM associated with it, and assemble the components listed in the eBOM, use the Assembly option instead.
- Enter a name for your kit.
- Select a location for where to gather the parts for the build.
- Click
Submit.
You now have an empty kit and can add your component parts by selecting + Line or + Inventory.
There's a place to add comments in the Activity panel on the right.
Assembly
This option uses the eBOM associated with the part to populate the kit. You do have the flexibility to add additional components.
- In the Assembly Config box, search for a part to assemble with this kit. Select your part.
- The Assembly Config shows your selected part. It will use the associated eBOM to populate the components for the build.
- Enter the serial numbers for the completed build. The Quantity will auto-populate.
- Enter a name for your kit.
- Select a location for where to gather the parts for the build.
- Click
Submit.
Your kit is shown with the required build items auto-populated from the eBOM. There's a panel on the right that shows the planned inventory. There's also a place to add comments in the Activity section.
Reserve, Pick, and Install
If you are ready to install, you can go straight to Install without using the Reserve or Pick features.
- Reserve: When you reserve a specific serial number, a RESERVED banner will appear on the Inventory Detail page. Keep in mind that while the part is marked as reserved, other users can still access and use it in Boltline. The part becomes unavailable to others only after it is picked or assembled.
- Pick: Pick the items to change from their current inventory location to the location of your build. Use this when someone is ready to physically move the parts to the build location.
- Install: Installation of part components adds them to the aBOM.
- After you click
Install, you are prompted to select from the available inventory.
- After you click
Complete the Assembly
